Capital Camps Welcomes Nate Strauss as New Camp Director
Nate brings years of Michigan State Hillel experience to the role.
Rockville, Md., February 29, 2024 – Capital Camps is excited to announce the appointment of Nate Strauss as the new Camp Director, effective March 4, 2024. Nate Strauss, a dynamic leader with a profound dedication to fostering a vibrant Jewish future, joins the team with a wealth of experience and a renewed vision for the camp’s growth and development.
Nate brings to Capital Camps a rich background in Jewish community engagement and leadership, most notably through his tenure at the Michigan State University Hillel, where he served as Director of Jewish Student Life and Assistant Director. His deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing young adults in today’s Jewish and secular worlds is matched by his commitment to creating strong, inspired Jewish identities through meaningful experiences.
As Camp Director, Nate will leverage his expertise in team-building and leadership to guide the Capital Camps team toward achieving collective goals and fostering a collaborative environment. His multifaceted approach will address the needs of teens, especially in areas of mental health and social dynamics; working through the challenges of adolescence alongside our middle school campers; and also inspiring younger campers to explore community building and independence.
“Capital Camps is at the forefront of building and shaping the Jewish future. The camping experience is pivotal, not just for the children but for their entire families. I am looking forward to building relationships with parents, as well as fostering the personal growth of both campers and staff.”” said Nate.
An advocate for creative Jewish and Israel-focused programming, Nate is eager to use the camp’s vast outdoor spaces for programming, discovery, and self-reflection.
“I am excited to welcome Nate to our CCRC family and look forward to seeing all that he has to offer our staff, campers, and families in the realm of transformational Jewish journeys,” said Sarah Barnett, Board Chair. “This is a very exciting time for Camp as we embark on summer 2024 with renewed vision and energy!”
Capital Camps invites the community to join in welcoming Nate. Under his leadership, the camp is poised to continue its tradition of providing a fun, safe, and inclusive environment where children, teens, and staff can thrive, grounded in Jewish values.
“We are fortunate to incorporate Nate’s deep experience creating a Jewish campus community for MSU Hillel and bringing that expertise to support our own Jewish campus for young campers, teens, college students, and young adults at Capital Camps,” said Havi Goldscher, President & CEO. “The linkage throughout institutions along the trajectory of the Jewish journey is undeniable, Nate joining our team will strengthen our intentional impact on the breadth of our Capital Camps community.”
